Bianchi Bikes, one of the legendary names in the bicycle manufacturing industry, recently celebrated its 125th anniversary in 2005.
Edoardo Bianchi, the man behind the success of Bianchi Bike, was only 21 years old when he started the business in 1885 from his little shop in Milan, via Nirone, Italy. He was a man with very creative and innovative talents. The first concept born out of his mind was to reduce the front wheel diameter, lower the position of pedals and balance the gap in between with the help of a chain. He got a huge response for this kind of vehicle which gives more safety and stability to the rider. In 1888, he had to move from Nirone to Bertani to expand his rapidly growing business. He was even invited by Queen Margaret in 1895 to design a bicycle especially for her and teach her how to ride it. Since then the Bianchi Bike sees no ends to its growth.
However Bianchi got its international recognition in 1899, when Giovanni Tommaselli, sponsored by the company, got the first victory in the Gran Prix of Paris, the World Championship of track racing which is known as the Tour De France now. This was a perfect platform for young Bianchi to test his new innovations and to satisfy his adventurous zeal. Henceforth the Bianchi industry continued to grow in its success and new inventions.
During World War I, in 1914, Binchi designed and produced a special military vehicle for the army. The famous full suspension mountain bike, the Bersaglieria was introduced in 1915. But in a sad demise, in 1943, the whole Bianchi factory was completely ruined by a bomb explosion. Again in 1946 the factory was rebuild but it lost it’s backbone, Edoardo Bianchi. He died of injuries by another automobile accident.
But nothing stopped the Bianchi industry growing thanks to its excellency and professionalism. Currently the company is managed by its CEO Bob Ippolito and is known to be one of the best brands in cycling industry.
